ASL

I purchased this app for my 11 yr. old thinking it was teaching the ASL version. After signing to someone, he was told he was using the English style. In reading one of the comments, do you have to know ASL phrases, etc. to have it show you how to sign in ASL?
Having spent the money I hope there is some way to benefit from this app.
